Call to Artists: Recycled, Repurposed, Reimagined Exhibition
Calling all makers! Do you piece together other people’s trash to create your own treasures? Have you discovered a new way to use an old object? Do you gather or otherwise source your art supplies from nature? Or find ways to create work utilizing sustainable or biodegradable products?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, we want to share what you’ve been making! Even if you answered no to all of them, but then thought, “but I could…?” Well, we encourage you to take that challenge then show us what you did with it!
The Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley will be opening a new exhibit, Recycled, Repurposed, Reimagined on Friday, April 21—just in time for Earth Day—that will highlight creative reuse through a display of works created with found, reclaimed, or natural objects and supplies. We are asking area crafters, artists, and other makers to get creative with this theme. Did you buy a painting at a thrift shop to paint a new picture on the canvas? Or maybe create a functioning lamp out of a bunch of old pipes? Or glue flower petals to an old textbook page to create a new painting? That all qualifies, and we want to see it!
Please note: Works in progress are eligible to apply. Please apply with information about the current state of the piece and the planned outcome. A digital image of the work in progress is also required, along with the expected approximate dimensions of the piece.
For more information or to request help with the online application process and/or digital images, contact Becky at 540-980-7363 or Director@FACNRV.org.
Artists may submit up to FIVE (5) pieces for consideration.
Eligibility: Recycled, Repurposed, Reimagined is open to all artists of the New River Valley who are 18 years or older. Entered works must be original, hand-crafted, and ready for display. Mass-produced kit assembly other than that of their own creation will not be accepted. All work represented by the FACNRV should be of the finest quality and representative of artists’ talents. Oil, watercolor, fiber arts, photography, mixed media, sculpture, digital and other forms of art are all welcome. Please contact us if you have any questions.
All framed and other hanging artwork must be ready to hang safely and securely with wire across the back. Exceptions will be made for pieces that are too heavy to wire across the back. In that case, pieces must have the appropriate hanging hardware installed. No sawtooth hangers will be allowed. Sculptures and other 3D work may be placed on stands, tables, or the floor. The Center reserves the right to make decisions regarding the pieces to be shown. No Artwork may be removed before the close of the exhibition.
