Creative Circles: A Community Collage Project at the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley, Pulaski

About the Project

Project Overview: Project Overview: The "Creative Circles" project invites individuals of all ages and backgrounds to contribute to a collaborative artwork that promotes unity and creativity within the community. Each participant will create a design on a 6x6 in. cardstock square using markers and paint for a consistent look. Once completed, each quarter-circle will be paired with three others to form a full circle, displaying the collective creative effort of the community.

Goals: Encourage creativity and artistic expression for a variety of community members in a low-stakes project. Foster a sense of unity and collaboration by visually connecting individual works into one cohesive piece. Utilize community spaces to make art accessible to a wide audience who may not otherwise interact with art.

At each event, participants will receive a 6x6 in. cardstock with a pre-drawn quarter circle. They will have the freedom to design their shape using markers or paint. After the event, completed squares will be gathered, grouped into full circles, and displayed at a culminating exhibit celebrating the collective work.

Timeline:

• Return Deadline: Saturday, Nov 23, 2024

• Opening: Saturday, Nov 30, 2024

Instructions:

1. Design Your Shape: Decorate the quarter circle and square any way you like. Feel free to use patterns, doodles, or abstract designs—let your creativity flow!

2. Fill the Space: Use markers or paint to fully color in your shape. Try to cover the entire area so no blank spaces remain.

3. Be Bold: Use bright colors, bold lines, or intricate details. There are no limits on your design choices!

4.  Return Your Shape: Turn in your shape so we can add it to our community collage!

• Drop-in at the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley at 21 W. Main St., Pulaski OR at our Blacksburg Location, 860 University City Blvd (Suite 105), Blacksburg to complete a shape!

• Do you have a group who is interested in participating? Contact our curator at savannah@facnrv.org, to coordinate a drop-off or pick-up for templates and supplies.
