Make Art: David Pearce, Artist at Home
David Pearce works in a variety of media, often creating something visual out of a graphical concept or a photograph he’s taken, even forming those ideas into three-dimensional art.
I like to make art which is representational or semi abstract with a concentration on sculpture in wood or clay and acrylic paintings. Many of my works depict the female figure in some manner. That said, I have made many artistic turned bowls of wood and am an experienced photographer. As a member of the Blacksburg Regional Art Association, my work has been shown in many local venues and LinDor Arts in Roanoke displays my wood designs. A sample of my clay sculptures and woodturning is on display at the Blacksburg Library. My website, davidpearcephotography.com, exhibits samples of the above work as well as an extensive display of my travel photography to over 65 countries.
Recent work has focused on wood or clay sculpture and acrylic paintings of various subjects.
Life is dull without art. My main focus is on taking a graphical concept or a photograph I've taken and convert into something with visual impact. Also, I view my photography as a means of taking others to places in this world which they will never have an opportunity to see. I enjoy capturing the beauty of nature no matter whether it is a large vista or the smallest flower. There is beauty in nature and the world all around us. Incorporating a beautiful image from nature into a turned vase is both a challenge and an opportunity to share. A special joy is the challenge of converting a photograph into a finely detailed visual presentation in wood and color.
