The Evolution of Quilting: An Exhibit and Talk (October 21 @ 5:30 p.m.)

Come visit the newest exhibit at the Fine Arts Center, The Evolution of Quilting, and don’t miss a presentation by Alice Schaaf, Board Member and coordinator of the Draper Quilt and Art Collective (Oct. 21 @ 5:30 p.m.)

Do you have a quilt in your home? Who made it? Is it a family heirloom, or is it an art piece? Or is it just comforting? Maybe all of the above? Quilting has gone from a necessity to an artistic expression. Sometimes both.

Come explore the Evolution of Quilting in the Fine Arts Center’s newest exhibit. The quilts range from the heartfelt quilts of our relatives to the exploration of color and needlework that quilters use to express their artistic identity. You might find a common thread (pun intended) between foundational quilting methods that quilters have then applied to artistic expression. The show includes traditional and art quilts from local quilters, including Chime Satlz, popular Pulaski County teacher who created Story Quilts using piecework from her students.

As a bonus, join us on Thursday, October 21 @ 5:30 p.m. when Alice Schaaf, Fine Arts Center board member and organizer of the Draper Quilt and Art Collective, presents a short talk on the Evolution of Quilting in which she shares how quilting evolved from utility to art referencing many of the beautiful quilts displayed in the Edna B. Love gallery.
