The Scholastic Arts competition is perhaps the nation’s most prestigious art competition for secondary school students. Across the nation, students participate in competitions at the regional level. The highest award winners, the American Visions nominees and Gold Key winners are forwarded to the national level for competition. Winners at the national level qualify for thousands of dollars in scholarships.

The Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley is the official affiliate for the Scholastic Arts Awards representing the Southwest Virginia region. Despite the challenges educators and students have faced this past year, we were honored and impressed by the quality of entries for this year’s Scholastic Awards. The range and quality of work was impressive, for any year, especially during one in which social distancing and remote learning are what most students deal with on a daily basis.
