Join Appalachian Music Legends in the April 5 First Friday Listening Room

Willard Gayheart and Ricky Cox are making a special appearance in our April Listening Room. You won’t want to miss it!

Willard Gayheart grew up in Eastern Kentucky and now lives near Galax, VA. He was a founding member of the Highlanders, Skeeter and the Skidmarks, and Alternate Routes, and with his son-in-law Scott Freeman presents a weekly music program at the Blue Ridge Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway, May through October. Willard is also widely known as a pencil artist and owns and operates Front Porch Gallery and Frame Shop in Woodlawn, VA.

Ricky Cox, from Floyd County, VA, is a folklorist and historian and taught courses in English and Appalachian Studies at Radford University for over thirty years. He and Willard have been playing and singing early country music duets since 2020. Along with a couple of songs written by Mr. Gayheart, their program will feature duets from c. 1930s brother acts and songs made popular by the Original Carter Family.

The concerts are held at the Fine Arts Center at 21 West Main Street in Pulaski, VA. Seating is limited, so please be sure to reserve your ticket ahead of time. The suggested donation for this event is $5, but everyone is welcome whether they can make a donation or not. The music runs from 6-8 p.m. There will be light refreshments and a cash bar beginning at 5 p.m. There is street parking, and there are several lots within a block from the Center, one behind the Pulaski Theatre and one a block away by the Central Gym and County Administration Building.
