Popular artist and instructor Vera Dickerson will lead participants in exploring color relations for more effective paintings.
Years ago, Vera Dickerson saw an exhibit of Matisse paintings at the National Gallery where one room displayed “normal” paintings on one wall and those with a complementary underpainting color on the other wall. The power of color play in those with an underpainting was amazing. In this workshop, participants will use the warmth of an underpainting of transparent red (Naphthol Red Light), and then build the paintings. Although only small edges of this color will be visible at completion, it creates a unity and warmth across the entire painting. Any subject matter may be used. The focus will be on exploring color relations. The fee is $125 for BRAA members, $155 for non-members. Lunch is included in the fee.
