The Fine Arts Center is pleased to reopen its doors with a retrospective of our permanent collection. Items from founding members, docents, and local artists already in the collection will be joined by new acquisitions.
In 1978, shorty after the Center was founded, a Permanent Collection was started with the purpose of collecting the works of artists from the New River Valley or who have been influenced by the region’s beauty and the culture of its people. Over the years, the Fine Arts Center has collected numerous valuable pieces of art through donations, purchases, and from estates. Since there is a lack of space in the main gallery to exhibit the full collection, only a few pieces at a time are usually displayed at the Center.
After being closed for over a year and not being able to have public exhibits in the Center, we are now glad to be open and thought this would be a great opportunity to display some of the Permanent Collection that embody some of the art and artists in this region. We will also be adding to the collection with new art, some from our board members, and we will be highlighting these artists during our show.
