YOURTH ART MONTH ON MAIN!

Youth Art Month is an annual celebration of student artists and their teachers started by the Council for Art Education. It occurs every March, and it is one of the most popular exhibits hosted by the Fine Arts Center. It culminates with a reception that brings dozens of families to historic downtown Pulaski to view art, mingle, and have a good time.

You know why we can’t host Youth Art Month in our gallery this year. The Center actually closed a year ago in the middle of Youth Art month. But Youth Art Month is so important to us, because it’s a rare opportunity to thank art teachers, students, and their families in the New River Valley.

Since we can’t invite you into our shop, we have collaborated with Pulaski on Main and local businesses to make all of historic downtown our Youth Art Month exhibit. Come downtown and visit and see more than 70 pieces of art from students from the ages of 3 through 14 displayed in shop windows and at the Pulaski Library throughout the month of March. Thanks teachers for helping us create Youth Art Month on Main!

Play Our Youth Art Month Scavenger Hunt

“Which is your favorite painting?” Each of the six in this family from Christiansburg had his or her own favorite!

But wait…there’s more! Starting March 5, scavenger hunt game cards will be available from the mailbox at the Fine Arts Center, the Pulaski Library (during open hours), and from some of our participating businesses. Take the game cards with you and search for the art downtown. When you find art, you will also find a QR code. Download a free QR code reader to your phone or mobile device, and learn a little about the art you’re seeing. (Hint: there are at least 10 different art styles or techniques used to create much of the art in this year’s exhibit!)

Write the street address on your Scavenger Hunt Game Card in the appropriate box. Once you’ve completed the card, fill out the back and drop it off at the Pulaski Library (during open hours) or back at the mailbox at the Fine Arts Center. Your completed card enters you into a drawing for free art supplies worth more than $50 from the Fine Arts Center at the end of March!

So visit historic downtown Pulaski, get some fresh air, enjoy some great art, celebrate young artists and their teachers, and enter to win free art supplies!
