Early Art

“Early” in this case refers to early in a young artist’s life—very early, as some of these artists are only three years old! Art is a natural interest for even the very youngest of our children who develop art skills far ahead of more common literacy or numeracy skills. In fact, participating in art projects early on can lead to improved language development, motor skills, and creative and critical thinking. So don’t discount those scribbles from your toddler. They’re leading to far greater things down the road which is why the Fine Arts Center and the YMCA invest our time and effort for art programs for children.

The Fine Arts Center is very proud to partner with the YMCA of Pulaski County to provide art experiences for children and families. While our own Center has been closed, we have been able to provide more than 130 free art kits to students in education programs at the YMCA on the Second Saturday of every month beginning last summer, along with more than 20 other children in the area. Students have explored weaving, crafting, and watercolor projects, to name a few. This month we kick off art projects for families at the YMCA.

If you have a young child that would like to participate in our FREE Second Saturday Art Cafes, please complete this short online form. Currently, we are delivering these free kits or have them available for pick-up at the Center. We are looking forward to the time when we can augment these kits with live classes. Hang in there! We’ll get there.

The art from our friends at the YMCA is displayed in the new home of MOVA Technologies, a filtration technology that captures harmful Carbon Dioxide, developed by Virginia Tech professor and arts philanthropist Arthur M. Squires. The street number is 29, so add 29 to your game card in the EARLY square.
