Stained Glass as Inspiration

Stained Glass Saunders.jpg

This unique artwork plays on the theme of stained glass - visible in the building’s window and then replicated in the background. The lines that separate the colors are the lines in stained glass made with strips of lead or solder on copper foil, or even stone or grout that hold the colored glass pieces together.

Stained glass is an ancient art form that has evolved from glass ware to windows in sacred spaces and contemporary art all throughout the world. The secret to making glass colored? Chemisty! Metallic oxides such as copper oxide are added to clear glass to give it the colors we have come to know in beautiful stained glass pieces of art.

This stained glass-inspired drawing is in the window of the Fine Arts Center, which you probably now know is 21 W. Main, so write the number 21 in the STAINED GLASS block on your game card.
