Come meet the artists at the opening our new exhibit, Peak Creek: Two Views, on Friday, June 17!

A reception for local artists L.S. King and Ken Smith will be hosted at the Fine Arts Center from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 17. The event will include an opportunity to meet the artists as well as make your own art inspired by the Peak Creek!

For artists L.S. King and Ken Smith, the Peak Creek ecosystem is a source of inspiration and beauty, and one that is the focus of their new exhibit Peak Creek: Two Views at the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley in Historic Downtown Pulaski. The duo have spent the past several years exploring Peak Creek and the surrounding area and have create a show that combines prints from L.S. King and landscape paintings by Ken Smith. As an added benefit, all proceeds generated from the purchase of any items in the exhibit are graciously being donated by the artists back to the Fine Arts Center to contribute to our flooring fundraiser. (We’re getting close! We only need $3,000 to reach our goal.)

The exhibit will also include informational and educational materials provided by the Friends of Peak Creek, a non-profit composed of local volunteers who foster environmental awareness, provide educational opportunities, and develop sustainably responsible recreational and economic opportunities for community members intended to help improve the creek’s ecological habitat.

Plus, you are invited to contribute your own art inspired by Peak Creek! A section of the gallery will be dedicated to art work about or inspired by Peak Creek created by visitors to the Center. Artists of all ages are encouraged to bring in or create their own Peak Creek-inspired art, such as drawings, paintings, photographs, or other media. Some art supplies will be available at the Center.

L.S. King will return on Saturday, July 23 for an open house opportunity for artists of all ages to create prints of leaves collected near Peak Creek using a process called relief printing. Stop by and create your own leaf print to take home. This opportunity is appropriate for artists or art enthusiasts of any age.
