Menagerie 2023: Call to Artists

Join us for one of our most popular exhibits of the year. The call is now open to artists from across the New River Valley 18 ears or older to share their work in the community exhibit. A $100 prize will be awarded for the People’s Choice Award.

Menagerie is one of the Fine Arts Center’s most popular exhibits as it features a range of art and styles from the  many talented artists throughout the New River Valley. We invite all local artists to share their work in one of our most crowd-pleasing exhibits of the year.

Eligibility: Menagerie is open to all artists of the New River Valley who are 18 years or older. Entered works must have been created in the past twelve months and must be original, hand-crafted, and ready for display. Mass-produced kit assembly other than that of their own creation will not be accepted. All work represented by the FACNRV should be of the finest quality and representative of artists’ talents. Oil, watercolor, fiber arts, photography, mixed media, sculpture, digital and other forms of art are all welcome! Please contact us if you have any questions.

All framed and other hanging artwork must be ready to hang safely and securely with wire across the back. Exceptions will be made for pieces that are too heavy to wire across the back. In that case, pieces must have the appropriate hanging hardware installed. No sawtooth hangers will be allowed. Sculptures and other 3D work may be placed on stands, tables, or the floor. The Center reserves the right to make decisions regarding the pieces to be shown.

Entry: $5.00 for each entry for nonmembers. Members may enter for FREE. There is a limit of five (5) entries per person. Entry fees may be paid through our online shop, by check via mail, or in person at the center by 11 p.m. July 26, 2023. Fee waivers are available upon request.

Deadline: The deadline for all entries and payment of entry fees is 11 p.m. on July 26, 2023. All entries must be submitted online through the FAC website. Artists needing assistance with the online process should contact the Fine Arts Center before July 19 to schedule an appointment. Artists will be notified of acceptance by Saturday, July 29.

Delivery: All accepted entries must be delivered to the Fine Arts Center at 21 West Main Street, Pulaski, VA, between August 7-12, between the hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment. The Center is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Show dates for the Menagerie Exhibit are Friday, August 18 through Saturday, October 7. Following the show, art should be picked up between October 10-14 between 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment.

There will be a reception on Friday, August 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Center. The public is invited.

Liability: Although every care will be taken by the Fine Arts Center, we cannot assume liability for loss or damage for whatever cause. It is suggested that the artist wishing additional protection insure their works independently. Submission of work to the exhibition shall constitute an agreement to comply with all conditions set forth in this call. Permission to reproduce entries for publicity purposes is assumed unless otherwise noted on the entry form.

Prizes: The Fine Arts Center is pleased to offer a $100 prize for the People’s Choice Award, selected by viewers of the exhibit.

Sales and Commission: Any and all exhibiting artists may offer their artwork for sale. Artists should provide the Center with the final retail price–the price it will be sold.
